F.A.Q

Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy that uses relaxation techniques and guided imagery to help a person enter a deep state of relaxation called the hypnotic state. While in the hypnotic state, the brain becomes more susceptible to therapeutic suggestions and creates new neural pathways, as well as making it enabling “switching off” dysregulated neural pain pathways.”

Hypnotherapy can be helpful to break unhelpful habits and patterns such as: smoking, unhealthy eating habits, IBS, panic attacks, anxiety, phobias, chronic pain.

According to clinical trials, hypnosis has been found to be effective in reducing chronic pain, as evidence by a study published in PubMed. Additionally, a meta-analysis of hypnosis for chronic pain has also shown positive results.

For example a 2007 review of clinical and experimental studies published in the international journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis revealed that hypnosis was successful in reducing pain in 75% of the studies reviewed.

Anxiety and depression: A 2012 study published in the International Journal  of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis found that hypnotherapy was effective in reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Irritable bowel syndrome(IBS): A 2003 study published in the International Journal of Clinical Experimental Hypnosis found that hypnotherapy was significantly more effective than standard medical care in reducing symptoms of IBS.

After an initial telephone assessment patient will be invited for a face-to-face 50 min session.

Your first hypnotherapy session will  be focused in finding about a little bit more about you such as your mental and emotional health, exploring presenting issue triggers,  possible emotional roots and discuss goal.

Patients will then be guided into a progressive relaxation using imagery or body scan until achieving a deep relaxation. Whilst the patient is in a deep relaxation state, practitioner will give therapeutic suggestions.

Therapeutic suggestions provided during the hypnosis state will be agreed between practitioner and patient at the start of treatment.

Even though during the hypnotherapy session patients are guided to a deep state of relaxation (hypnosis state), patients remain conscious and in total control, able to stop the session at any moment they wish.

Throughout the anxiety-free focused sessions, patients will be supported to:

  • Shift their focus to well-being.
  • Receive anxiety education.
  • Learn to relax and achieve a state of relaxation.
  • Create a personalized well-being plan.
  • Learn self-hypnosis tools.

Throughout the pain-free sessions, patients will be supported to:

  • Shift their focus from pain to recovery.
  • Receive pain education.
  • Learn to relax and achieve a state of relaxation.
  • Create a personalized well-being plan.
  • Learn self-hypnosis tools.

How many hypnotherapy sessions you need varies from person to person, so it’s difficult to give a definitive answer.

Some people may see a significant improvement after 4-6 sessions and be able to continue working on themselves using self-hypnosis tools, while others may require more support. Factors such as trauma, emotional health, motivation levels, awareness, complexity of the issue, and duration of pain symptoms are taken into account when determining the number of sessions needed.

Nevertheless in your first session we may come to an agreement regarding the amount of sessions that are probable to yield substantial improvement to your symptoms.

My Personal Experience and Journey with Hypnotherapy...

Hey there! I want to share with you my personal journey with hypnotherapy. To be honest, I never really had an interest in it until I experienced it for the first time during a one-off workshop. I was just there as a volunteer “client” for demonstration purposes. At the time, I didn’t have any addictions or unhealthy habits that I wanted to change, so I asked for help in improving my IBS symptoms.

I didn’t expect much from it, but after the session, I was left impressed with not only what I had experienced but also with the newly gained understanding of habits and thought patterns that were reinforcing my IBS symptoms. A few weeks later, I realized that the frequency as well as the symptoms had drastically reduced. Feeling intrigued I decided to train as a hypnotherapist to find out more about this somewhat mysterious practice.

But my second experience with hypnotherapy really cemented my belief in its therapy. After going through some health issues where I ended up in the hospital fighting for my life and followed by the loss of a loved one. I had to embark on a physical, emotional, and spiritual recovery journey. A few months after the initial recovery when I thought I was getting better, my body suddenly went into havoc, and every waking hour, I was struggling with unbearable pain.

Medication didn’t really help, doctors couldn’t give me answers as all health exams were inconclusive, and I started spiraling down emotionally.

I was unable to work, to go out and enjoy myself, the only time I felt some relief was whilst sleeping. After doing some researching online, I found other people who were having the same symptoms as me, unfortunately the majority of them had been in pain for decades and ended up developing depression as a proxy. My future looked bleak.

I honestly thought my life was over. But somehow, I harnessed all the energy I had left in me and made the decision that I would not be part of the statistics of people who lived in pain for most of their lives or became depressed. I started focusing even more on my health and spent most of my days researching.

After trying acupuncture, I saw some improvements, but after few months things didn’t seem to be improving any further. That’s when I stumbled upon a video from Howard Schubiner, a medical practitioner expert in chronic pain, and learned about the success of hypnotherapy for chronic pain and anxiety. I started using self-hypnotherapy tools and, to my surprise, in just one session, my pain drastically reduced drastically.

Even writing this today, it still feels unreal at times. At the time of writing this post, it has now been a year I have been pain-free. I had a few relapses in the mid-time, but it never lasted for longer than minutes and is more of an ache rather than pain. Whenever it happens, I just go back to my self-hypnotherapy tools and mindfulness techniques.

I am telling you all of this to show you that if I was able to get myself better, so can you. I am living proof that hypnotherapy works, and I am here to help you on your own recovery journey. You deserve to live a good, joyful life, free from pain and anxiety. Let me show you how hypnotherapy can help transform your life!
